John Davis (ex-Folk Implosion) / Evil English / Peanut Ricky

$8 / 8pm doors / 8:30 music / all ages / open til midnight

John Davis is a singer, songwriter, educator, activist, and multi-instrumentalist based in Durham, North Carolina, best know for his '90's work as half of Folk Implosion. He has also made many solo records for Shrimper and other lo-fi labels. He now has a new backing band of rotating compatriots called the Cicadas, two of whom will accompany him on drums, bass, viola, and electronics during this 8 city tour of the south and midwest, which follows up on an 11 city tour of Europe that a different line-up embarked on earlier in the summer.

The US shows will mix songs from 2013's Spare Parts album, which was co-produced by Omaha musician Simon Joyner, and the forthcoming album El Pulpo, which is currently available via a pre-release store that John has set up in partnership with Pledge Music. The Pledge Music site is full of exclusives that relate to the political content of the record, which concerns itself with corporate control of the food industry, and related issues such as migration, high finance, and mass/class incarceration. Early bird purchases get an immediate download of the track We'll Teach Them How to Privatize, and everyone can hear the track Stock Up All the Prisons, which debuted last spring via Brooklyn Vegan. The album will appear in late September or early October, from Shrimper records on cassette and Arbouse Recordings on CD.
