September's TACOS for PEACE benefits a local organization working to care for all members of our community who are in need. 
We donate 20% of our dinner sales, 5-9pm, and all you have to do is show up and order something off the menu. :)

The Iowa City Catholic Worker House on the east side of town, near the Sycamore Mall, currently offers a half dozen beds for those in need of short-term transitional housing, serves weekend meals, and provides a gathering place for Worship and Bible study, potlucks, playing chess and Pinochle, or just talking with interesting folks. Volunteers work together on cooking, cleanup, repairs, and gardening, with a broad base of community support and donations keeping the endeavor and its vision alive and vibrant.

"We want everyone to know that immigrants and refugees are welcome here," co-founder, Emily Sinnwell stated in a press release. "We are a safe house and sanctuary where the poor come first."

"We’re a small scale shelter, but we get calls every day and we can’t meet the housing need out there," David Goodner, co-founder of the Iowa City Catholic Worker, said to Lauren Shotwell writing for Little Village in November, 2016. "I think the biggest thing we’re learning from this experience is no matter how much we talk about the housing crisis here, it’s worse than we think it is. And a lot of the people we’ve had come through have been women and children."

We are now filling our Free Little Pantry twice a day and handing out over 100 pounds of food every week. Our current need besides meal sign-ups is pantry items! Stay tuned for exciting news about an expansion to our free pantry program.
