V>L>A>D>R>M - Iowa expat Nicholas Ray returns to Iowa City with longtime members Brendan Lee Spengler (Sinner Frenz), Kunal Prakesh (Jeff + The Brotherhood) & Jeff Bouck (Polyphonic Spree). Nick has prolifically created art in many mediums from Memphis to Brooklyn, to Athens and Berlin, before settling in New Orleans in recent years. VLADRM is his everlasting, deconstructed RnR group that has evolved/devolved over two decades, drinking from the same primordial pond as the VU, Sun City Girls and Brian Eno. Always willing to throw a Shirley Bassey cover into the mix, their sound has been described as ‘epically farting around,’ and ‘music for record collectors.’ But, ultimately VLADRM makes music for people who believe they are listening to music of their generation. They have a long discography of elusive records, plus a new 7” out on Nashville’s Third Man Records, whose label mates include Carl Sagan and Jack White.

Peanut Ricky & Her Fiends - If you didn’t witness Jordan Adam’s set at Mission Creek earlier this month, build a time machine, steal some plutonium from Libyan terrorists (who the CIA armed, trained, and then double-crossed, btw), and go back in time and witness it. When the whole of modern culture seems emotionally unavailable and terribly repressed, Peanut Ricky makes music that is part Bauhaus, part raw soul, part courage and all the other swag that was doled out at the end of the Wizard of Oz. Or the Wiz. A myth in the making.

Plus, DeeJay AtotheK will be selecting the hits to keep people dancing. With a collection of soul and R&B 45s to ogle, Adam Kelly is beginning to bring Iowa City up to speed on why no one wants to hear the bartender’s Pandora station while they’re out partying.

All this, and sponsored by Cobra Verde! Flamboyant local business man Jarrett Mitchell will have a few tricks up his sleeve that evening too. A raffle? A dance contest? Free prizes? Yes!
