The Christine Burke Ensemble is an ever-changing group of Iowa City area musicians (performers, composers and improvisers) who are interested in performing open, improvisatory, and experimental works. Tonight's ensemble includes Tâmila Freitas, Christine Burke, Keegan Hockett, Justin K Comer, Levi Strauss, Mark Rheaume, and guest performer/composer Kory Reeder.
Christine Burke is an Iowan composer and performer whose projects include writing music (most recently for Duo Axis and a pe ri od ic) and antique organ improvisations. Her debut album "Something kept close: outdoor music" was released on Sawyer Editions in 2022. https://www.burkechristine.com
Justin K Comer is a saxophonist, improviser, and composer living and working in Coralville, IA. He has self-released a bunch of music. In addition to solo work, he plays with groups like Wombat, BCJsPs, and the Christine Burke Ensemble. Kory Reeder, described as “one of the most captivating composers in modern classical music” (Dallas Observer), is an American composer and performer whose music is often introspective and atmospheric, investigating ideas of objectivity, place, immediacy, situation, and interaction with pieces ranging from symphonic works to text scores and computer-assisted improvisations.
